Backup in windows was a matter of installing a good software, such as allway sync or something similar. Most of the time, it worked, but sometime, it failed badly (files opened by other programs). Here comes linux:
rsync -vurt –progress –delete /mnt/photos/photos/ /mnt/storage/mnt/Donnees Rapides/Backup/Photos/

I switched to Ubuntu from Windows XP as my main computer’s OS a few months ago. I can’t believe how easy it is and how tasks that would have been complicated with windows are a breeze in linux.

I just installed and began using rsync to do backup over the network.
rsync is a program that compare backup with original folder and find differences. It then compress the differences before sending them over a secure channel (ususally ssh) on a network (internet or lan).
